In 2023 Moorelands Kids was committed to ‘building back’ on so many levels, including building back the number of children and youth able to access both Moorelands Camp and Moorelands city programs so as to ‘serve more kids, serve kids more”. Through engagement with community partners, as well as government representatives and local authorities, we endeavoured to elevate the visibility of our unique experiential leadership programs.
We invested in growing our staffing resources so that we could be better positioned to elevate our brand, as well as expand our reach for both families and funders to connect with our work and mission. Moorelands Kids also set the stage for a new five-year strategic plan with three key pillars: Growth, Modernization and Sustainability. This provided us with a roadmap to address some critical issues at play in society today, such as the increased financial struggles that marginalized families are facing due to income inequality at an all-time high (Toronto Vital Signs 2023).
As always, Moorelands Kids remained committed to delivering quality leadership learning programs for disadvantaged children and youth, both in the city and at camp. Our focus on ‘Growth’ allowed us to successfully build back numbers of kids receiving a one-week overnight experience last summer at Moorelands Camp. We also demonstrated growth in the latter part of 2023 within the city programs.
Over the past year we refreshed our brand as part of the ‘Modernization’ pillar. While our mission has remained unchanged in supporting children and youth facing socio-economic barriers, our revitalized strategy seeks to provide clearer direction and objectives in working toward ‘Sustainability’.
For us, realizing kids’ potential to succeed means mobilizing our community of supporters through initiatives such as Giving Tuesday and Send a Kid to Camp (SAK). On behalf of the Board and the Moorelands Kids staff, THANK YOU for your invaluable support last year in creating positive pathways to strengthen the emotional and social well-being of at-risk children and youth.
Sincerely,
